Sanitation Supervisor- 3rd Shift

Job Overview
Sanitation Supervisor will manage the sanitation teams on third shift and enforce all sanitation and food safety policies and programs. Sanitation Supervisor will be responsible for directing, training and coordinating activities on the third shift’s sanitation department staff. They will assist in the maintenance and development of sanitation SOPs and hold their teams accountable to the standards set forth by the Facility Quality manager or the Corporate Quality Team.  They will work with Quality leadership and collaborate across functions to achieve the standards or expectations identified.  They will inspect, evaluate and train sanitation personnel to ensure cleaning standards are met and prevent product contamination.  Supervises the safe and timely cleaning of the facility and equipment in accordance with the company, customer, certification and regulatory requirements and supports facility compliance with records verification. 

Essential Accountabilities

  • Lead positive employee relations programs throughout the organization
  • Lead, manage, and hold quality and sanitation teams accountable to expectations
  • Trains, coaches, mentors, empowers, and develops team members
  • Develop, improve, and manage Sanitation programs, policies, and SOPs
  • Manage cleaning schedules and proper allocation of resources (labor, supplies, equipment and time)
  • Conducting inspections (GMP, Safety, Food Safety,) and cleaning verifications
  • Manage sanitation supplier relations and inventories to ensure they are available and effective
  • Continually monitor the effectiveness and adequacy of cleaning activities via cleaning verification and validations
  • Manage the facilities Master Sanitation Schedule
  • Develops, advises on and coordinates continuous sanitation improvement initiatives
  • Assist in preparation as needed for USDA/FDA audits, SQF third-party audits, kosher, military, and organic audits.
  • Conduct and train teams on proper Sanitation Pre-Op inspection protocols
  • Ensure proper documentation of sanitation activities  in Redzone to meet the continuous and changing requirements of SQF, HACCP, FSMA, Kosher foods, Organic foods and state and federal regulations
  • Train Team Members in safe handling, use & storage of chemical supplies & equipment
  • Coordinate special cleaning projects as directed by the Quality Manager
  • Maintain scheduling for sanitation team members and vacation approvals
  • Provide timely response to production sanitation needs
  • Work with production supervisors to address issues related to sanitation
  • Monitor GMP’s and PPE
  • Help troubleshoot issues that may arise with plant sanitation
  • Instructs and coaches employees to properly use protective equipment
  • Help implement sanitation procedures and protocols established by the Quality Manager/Quality Department/Corporate Quality Team
  • Trains all employees in good safety and health practices
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and Local food safety regulations including, but not limited to, 21 CFR and all relevant company food and people safety policies and procedures
  • Provide First Aid care and response for sanitation team during medical emergencies
  • Forklift training/certification
  • Monitor outdoor walkways during inclement weather, snow and ice removal
  • Outdoor facility inspections, monitor door security
  • Other duties as assigned
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • Two or more years of supervisory responsibility for sanitation processes and employees in a food manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of HACCP, OSHA, Food Safety, and GMP requirements is preferred, but not required
  • Basic proficiency with MS Office products, particularly Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Sanitation process development, documentation, and improvement. Should include CIP and COP
  • Sanitation training/ certification
  • Must possess a demonstrated understanding of basic food manufacturing sanitation methods
  • Must possess a demonstrated proficiency in sanitation procedures required in various production plant areas
  • First Aid/CPR certification required or the ability to obtain
  • Must be self-motivated and solution orientated
  • Ability to understand the needs of the team and management
  • Ability to work independently without supervision and as part of a team
  • Ability to perform simple math operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Available for flexible scheduling to meet the needs of the department, including Saturday work
Work Environment
Work environment involves moderate risks or discomforts which may require special safety precautions working around moving machines in a production facility. Protective equipment such as hearing protection, hair nets, beard nets, safety goggles, chemical resistant gloves, boots and coveralls are required. Must be able to work in cold temperatures. The majority of the work is performed inside the facility with minimal duties performed outdoors.

Physical Demands
Work requires some physical strain such as long periods of standing and walking in a production facility. Other physical demands include climbing, crouching, and reaching. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds continually throughout the shift.
