Position: Director of Resource Development & Marketing

Reports To: Executive Director

Job Status: Full-time, Salary-exempt

Location: Boys & Girls Club of Portage County – Berard Center, 941 Michigan Avenue, Stevens Point, WI 54481

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Director of Resource Development & Marketing provides leadership creating, developing, and growing resource development and marketing strategies for the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County, with an emphasis on individual giving revenue streams (Great Futures Annual Campaign and major gifts), as well as special event revenue. The Director of Development & Marketing drives revenue growth to meet operational budget targets, both annually and long-term. Other key elements include public relations, marketing, donor/data base management, Board of Director relations, leading volunteers and committees, and strategic planning.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Great Futures Annual Campaign
  • Plan and implement the Great Futures Annual Campaign to meet financial goals established in the organizational budget
  • Implement targeted mailings that secure donations
  • Arrange, organize and provide strategies for Board Members to participate in soliciting funds for the annual campaign
  • Identify and recruit volunteer solicitors to be involved in soliciting funds for the annual campaign
  • Plan and implement marketing strategies to create awareness of the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County and participation in the annual campaign
  • Ensure that donor records are accurate, complete, and used as a tool for further cultivation
  • Work to ensure integrity of donor data (online database, research, direct mail)

Major Gifts/Capital Campaign

  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of major gift prospects with corresponding strategy and plans for each
  • Develop and execute a plan to expand annual fund efforts to build the major gift pipeline.
  • Plan, arrange, and organize strategies for Board Members to participate in soliciting funds through major gifts
  • Work closely with the Executive Director and Board Members to ensure donor relationships are managed and leveraged effectively to increase the likelihood of giving
  • Ensure best strategies for donor cultivation, stewardship, and recognition are being implemented to increase giving
  • Special Events
  • Working with the Executive Director, Events & Marketing Coordinator, Board Members, and Committee Volunteers to plan and implement the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County’s signature events: Portage County Taste of Wine & Cheese, Bike4BGC, and Passport to Paradise
  • Ensure events are fun and engaging to participants to result in growth of revenues
  • Ensure events meet revenue goals established by organizational budget
  • Ensure events are well planned with support engagement of volunteer committees
  • Ensure events are promoted in a variety of ways to maximize participation and revenues
  • Recruit business sponsors to generate event revenue, including maintaining current sponsors and attracting new sponsors
  • Include BGC mission in special events to inspire event participants for future giving

Public Relations & Marketing

  • Provide leadership to the PR & Marketing Committee and its volunteers to implement a year-round marketing strategy
  • Provide effective supervision and direction to the Events & Marketing Coordinator to implement year-round marketing strategies that include: website, email newsletters, annual report, social media, event promotional materials, etc.
  • Working with Executive Director, manage media inquiries effectively
  • Develop relationships with local media outlets to support BGC initiatives including event promotion, media releases, interview opportunities, etc.
  • Ensure BGC branding is consistent and guidelines are followed by staff and vendors

Planned Gifts

  • Identify planned gift prospects
  • Plan, arrange, and organize strategies for Board Members to participate in soliciting funds through planned giving
  • Plan and implement marketing strategies for planned giving to create awareness of the Boys& Girls Club of Portage County


  • Participate and/or lead volunteer committees as assigned
  • Participate and assist in identifying resource development best practices, policy determination and management decisions
  • Perform special projects or assignments as required by the Executive Director
  • Work closely with program/operations leadership and Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) to ensure deep understanding of programmatic innovations and ongoing research, with an eye to communicating developments to the community stakeholders and funders
  • Collaborate with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to identify and develop opportunities for national-regional support from national foundations and corporate partners
  • Develop compelling proposals, reports, letters, and meeting materials, including extensive editing of written documents and presentations
  • Develop a broad external network and profile within our community



  • Bachelor’s degree; graduate degree or graduate course work in a related field preferred


  • Minimum of 3-5 years successful fundraising and/or sales experience, impressive track record with major gift solicitations and portfolio management, annual fund experience, large special event management experience, and securing significant foundation gifts
  • Strong track record as an effective manager
  • Work experience in Boys & Girls Clubs (national or local Club) is valuable

Other Knowledge & Skills Required:

  • Driver’s License and vehicle required
  • Demonstrated success in developing meaningful relationships with major gift donors; qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift donors
  • Demonstrated success in achieving high level fundraising goals, demonstrated success managing high level fundraising events
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, written and verbal
  • Demonstrated high standards of ethics and integrity
  • Team player willing to assist and motivate others to achieve success in fundraising campaigns.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word & Excel, Power Point, Google Docs/Drive, knowledge of donor management software
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships with a variety of constituents, setting ambitious goals and delivering results
  • Ability to gain in-depth knowledge and understanding of Boys & Girls Club programs
  • Demonstrated success aligning diverse stakeholders around a common vision or objective
  • Exceptional listener with ability to understand the needs and motivations of others
  • Ability to build trust with internal and external stakeholders, and synthesize a wide range of information into compelling narratives
