JOB TITLE:  Purchasing Agent
CLASSIFICATION: Salaried - Exempt
REPORTS TO: Director of Construction
We are seeking a driven and detail-oriented Buyer to be responsible for selecting and purchasing quality products for our business. The purchasing agent reports to the director of construction and is responsible for identifying suppliers, researching goods and services, processing purchase orders, negotiating with suppliers, tracking orders, creating, and maintaining an inventory, quality assurance, and verifying delivered items.
To be successful as a purchasing agent you should be able to critically assess suppliers, products, and services, and negotiate the best possible prices according to budget. Ultimately, an outstanding purchasing agent has a keen sense of business and maintains meticulous transaction records. Knowledge of sales and marketing principles is advantageous.

  • Researching and comparing suppliers, goods, and services.
  • Selecting the most suitable suppliers in terms of reliability, product quality, and cost-efficiency.
  • Monitoring inventory levels and determining purchase needs.
  • Requesting cost proposals and negotiating contracts and prices.
  • Preparing and processing purchase orders.
  • Maintaining records of all transactions, purchase orders, receipts, and payments.
  • Scheduling and verifying purchase deliveries.
  • Building and maintaining positive, long-term supplier relations.
  • Arrange transport of goods and track orders to ensure timely delivery.
  • Analyze market trends and apply this knowledge to make insightful buying decisions.
  • Prepare reports and communicate to suppliers and other company personnel.
  • Visit current and potential suppliers to audit capabilities.
  • Negotiate freight and payment terms with suppliers.
  • Monitor performance of all suppliers and subcontractors as to their actual costs versus proposal costs.
  • Conduct review of costs and in project close outs and make recommendations for corrective action as required.
  • Secure credits and back charges when applicable from vendors and suppliers and follow up with corrective actions.
  • Provide market analysis for material price trends to the Director of Construction and Operations Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Degree in business administration, procurement, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience as a purchasing agent or in a similar position. Relevant construction experience preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills (Excel, Microsoft Word, Office).
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations pertaining to management of inventory and purchasing control operations
  • Critical thinking and negotiation skills.

  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrate good judgement and reasoning in investigating and solving problems.

  • Valid driver’s license
This position requires the ability to work 40+ hours per week during normal business hours of 8:00 am –5:00 pm, Monday – Friday. 
This position operates in a professional setting during normal business hours of Monday to Friday, with occasional hours outside of that range as business necessitates. Occasional travel as needed.
