Pedal Point Rally Goes Virtual

This year, the plan was to merge the Midwest Recumbent Rally and the Bike for Boys & Girls Club ride into one fantastic, new event - Pedal Point Rally hosted by the Hostel Shoppe to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County. Due to COVID-19 concerns, organizers have decided to transform the originally planned event to a virtual “bike-on-your-own” challenge this year. Participants will challenge themselves to bike 50 miles up to 1,000 miles, over the course of a month, starting July 1st.  Routes and maps will be provided from previous events but participants can also choose their own routes.  This is a great opportunity to virtually join cyclists from all over the world to raise funds for Boys & Girls Club programming.
Boys & Girls Club and Hostel Shoppe encourage participants to invite friends and family to get active this summer and make a difference in the lives of local youth. Kevin Quevillon, Boys & Girls Club Executive Director said, “We believe  this will be a great outlet for families and avid bikers to not only bike through beautiful Portage County but also support our children and their favorite programs.”
Registration for this event is free of charge but participants will have the opportunity to win prizes by fund raising for the Boys & Girls Club. Those who complete their month-long challenge from July 1st - August 1st and raise at least $25 in donations or pledges will receive a t-shirt, water bottle, and will be entered to win larger prizes. Prizes from sponsoring vendors will also be given to participants who bike the most miles and the participant who raises the most in pledges or donations.
“We are sad that we have had to make these changes, but we are excited that people will still be able to enjoy the outdoors while cycling and supporting the Club. We are looking forward to next year already and cannot wait to have everyone together again,” said Breanna VanDeHey, owner of the Hostel Shoppe.
Those who are interested in participating in this event can register at by July 12th, 2020.
The Pedal Point Rally is a fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County, an organization whose sole purpose is to serve youth, especially those who need them most. With the community’s participation, the Club can continue improving the lives of local youth and continue to open doors for the future leaders of Portage County.
