Department University Advancement – Alumni Association
Department Description The UWSP Alumni Association was formed in 1968 under the auspices of then Chancellor Lee Sherman Dreyfus in order to more deeply engage and recognize alumni of UW-Stevens Point. Welcoming all alumni and friends into the Pointer family, the UWSP Alumni Association is home to programs, services, and traditions that aim to connect alumni to each other, the campus, community and current students in meaningful ways tailored to each persons’ interest and passion.
 
The UWSP Alumni Association is part of the UWSP Advancement Division at UW-Stevens Point. Advancement oversees activities of the UWSP Alumni Association, Major Gift Officers, development and the UWSP Foundation.

Position Summary Reporting to the Principal Alumni Relations Officer, and as part of the UWSP Alumni Association, the Alumni Relations Specialist – Communications will serve as Advancement’s primary communications officer. This position will manage the overall flow of digital and print communications with University Communications and Marketing to ensure coordination of messaging to leverage the best return on investment for each piece. Each communication is created to foster lasting relationships with alumni, friends, and donors of UW-Stevens Point that result in increased engagement and philanthropic support.
 
Working in close coordination with the University Advancement team and UWSP Foundation, the Alumni Relations Specialist – Communications will develop and document communications strategies that engage our alumni, friends and prospective donors. The ideal candidate listens effectively, has a strong sense of curiosity, welcomes diverse ideas, takes initiative, accepts responsibility, shares credit, and shows integrity and persistence in meeting long-term and complex goals. This position is based in Wisconsin with travel to strategic locations in the United States where UW-Stevens Point alumni, friends, and donors are located.
 
Shift: Office hours of 7:45am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday. Evening, weekend and varied hours will be required, as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in fundraising, marketing, sales, or in other roles that emphasize interpersonal communication
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on activities with minimal direction
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with proven ability to prioritize to meet goals
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a broad range of colleagues and constituents
  • Strong sense of ethical conduct and ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds
  • Available to travel, work weekends and evenings as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or skills and experience equivalent in communications areas
  • Thorough working knowledge of alumni relations, events management, volunteer management, donor relations concepts, principles, and practices
  • Experience in and/or appreciation of the unique environment of higher education
  • Previous experience working with a CRM or donor database

Terms of Employment This is an Academic Staff annual appointment, exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
