About Us

Established in 1952, the Portage County Historical Society's mission is to preserve and promote the history of the county. We do this through public tours, educational programming, and the preservation of over 1 million artifacts, documents, and photos that tell different parts of Portage County's history. PCHS also operates 4 historic sites - Beth Israel Synagogue in Stevens Point, Fire House No. 2 in Stevens Point, Heritage Park in Plover, and the Rising Star Mill in Nelsonville.
