About the Greenhouse Project and Central Rivers Farmshed:
Since October, Farmshed and many community partners have come together to launch The Greenhouse Project, an all-encompassing revitalization of a downtown garden center in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. These organizations along with hundreds of volunteers are transforming the abandoned property into a community food center. The 35,000 square foot facility, which is centrally located in our community, will house an 11,000 square foot production greenhouse, community kitchen, gathering space, and business/learning center. The acquisition of this property has afforded Farmshed the opportunity to deepen our community’s relationship with food in all forms: from growing, to processing, preserving, cooking and finally eating, while planning to build new businesses along the way.
The Greenhouse Project is a huge undertaking but we did not start there; Farmshed volunteers have been moving and shaking up the local food scene since 2007, running programs to help build a vibrant local food economy. Each year, we host the Local Food Fair, put out the Farm Fresh Atlas, run educational programs at schools and in the community, promote the farmers market, develop beginning farmers and more. We are excited by our growth, proud of our past and looking forward to our future.
Central Rivers Farmshed is a 501c3 nonprofit organization representing all aspects of the food system. We are committed to making Central Wisconsin a renowned, local food community. Farmshed works to expand the connection between local residents and their food. We strive to provide opportunities for participation, education, cooperation, and action to support a local food economy in Central Wisconsin.
Ignite Leadership Network of Portage County is a program of the PCBC Foundation and United Way of Portage County. Members are committed young professionals, focused on providing professional, social and philanthropic opportunities to ensure a vibrant future for Portage County Wisconsin.
