Fishing Tournament K-9 Fundraiser

Art Greco’s 9th grade "World of Business" class from Ben Franklin Junior High has organized a fundraiser at Lower Whiting Park as their project based learning experience. A fishing tournament, kids games, face painting, and food, in addition to special appearances by the Portage Co. K-9 unit and Sheriff Mike Lukas, as well as other activities are scheduled.

Several local businesses have donated food and prizes for the event, which will go on rain or shine.

The class hopes to raise at least $1,500 to present to the K-9 unit before school is out. So far, students have raised just over $260 for their cause by selling baked goods to teachers and fellow students at the school.

The Portage Co. K-9 unit assists local law enforcement in taking illegal narcotics off the streets of local communities. According to Chief Deputy Dan Kontos, the program is run entirely by private donations.
