Job Summary:
The Teller is a front-line banking professional who interacts with customers, verifying their identification, processing deposits and withdrawals, and facilitating various financial transactions. They serve as the initial point of contact for customers entering the bank.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interacts with customers in person, via telephone or email, to provide support and information on products or services.
- Maintain good customer relations; builds trust, customer loyalty and satisfaction.
- Fields customer questions and complaints; including online banking inquiries. Ensures appropriate actions are taken to maintain customer satisfaction.
- Perform routine bank telling tasks such as; making deposits, withdrawals, transfers, check cashing, loan advances, loan payments, credit card payments, savings bonds and gift certificates.
- Process address changes, and collect security box rental fees.
- Identifies and capitalizes on opportunities to promote new banking services. Refers customers to the appropriate staff for new services.
- Prepares cashier’s checks, money orders and wires; disbursing funds after verifying sufficiency of funds.
- Enters transactions in bank’s Integrated Teller program, including creating batches, scanning transactions, preparing CTR forms and producing customer receipts.
- Manages risk in every transaction and detect fraudulent transactions to prevent losses.
- Maintain and balance the cash drawer, vault and coin machine on a daily basis.
- Prepares monies for deposit or shipment to branch banks or the Federal Reserve Bank.
- Ability to interact effectively with customers, and customer satisfaction-oriented.
- Professional and clear verbal communication skills; including phone etiquette.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, using whole numbers and decimals.
- Basic personal computer knowledge, Microsoft Office or related software programs.
- Ability to use general office machines and equipment.
- Must be able to organize, pay attention to detail, and verify own work for accuracy.
- Trustworthiness and the ability to act with integrity.
- Basic understanding of bank policies, procedures, and regulations.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Customer service, cash handling and/or sales experience preferred.
- Prior experience in a financial institution preferred.
