Mental Health Educator - Flexible within five-county service areas

Starting Pay: $23.39 - $25.73 per hour, depending on experience
Status: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

Duties:

  • Deliver evidence-based mental health training to reduce stigma, improve recognition of the signs and symptoms of mental illness, teach coping skills, prevent suicide, and promote help-seeking as key strategies to foster a mental health-friendly community.
  • Maintain knowledge of local mental health and community resources that address mental illness and contribute to well-being. Distribute information to increase awareness of resources to meet mental health needs.
  • Identify and mobilize partners to educate community members on safe de-escalation of crisis situations.
  • Participate in regular meetings of community coalitions where there is a shared goal of increasing mental health to ensure mutual awareness of needs and available services and assist with creation of networks in communities where no such coalitions exist. Integrate efforts to improve coordination of services.
  • Facilitate connections to appropriate therapeutic and community resources for individuals with mental illness. 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, human services plus three or more years of experience leading to a working knowledge of mental health issues, treatment, and services; or associate degree in human service area plus five years’ related experience; or high school diploma or equivalent plus seven years’ related experience.
  • Experience providing community education is desirable.
  • Instructor certification in QPR and Mental Health First Aid is desirable or completed within three months of hire.
  • Moderate proficiency in Office365 Suite within three months of hire.
