The Chemistry Biology Building at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will be dedicated in honor of an alumni couple with a special presentation next week.
The building will be named the Frank R. and Kathleen Y. Haeni Chemistry Biology Building at 2 p.m., Friday, May 2, in Room 105, with remarks from Joshua Hagen, dean of the College of Letters and Science (COLS), and La Vonne Cornell-Swanson, provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs.
The dedication will be followed by the COLS 26th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium, with students from across all disciplines presenting oral and poster presentations throughout the building from 2:30-4 p.m.
“Frank and Kathleen Haeni have given much to the university since their graduation from UWSP in 1970,” said Hagen. “We are so grateful for their support of student success, faculty engagement and state-of-the-art facilities. It is because of their gifts that our students can present their research at the annual symposium.”
The couple’s support includes four endowed scholarships in COLS and the College of Natural Resources. They also help fund faculty-mentored undergraduate research, the COLS Undergraduate Research Symposium and the Olson Museum of Natural History. Their most recent commitment created an endowment to fund laboratory repairs and equipment purchases and maintenance for the Haeni Chemistry Biology Building.
