“Often, they’re here for positive reasons, helping keep our staff and patients safe.”
WAUSAU, Wis. – National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, observed on January 9, offers an opportunity to celebrate the invaluable contributions law enforcement officers make to community health and safety. At Aspirus Wausau Hospital (AWH), these partnerships play a key role in ensuring patients receive the care they need in a safe and supportive environment.
“It’s very common for us to have police officers in the Emergency Department,” said Stephanie Dulak, AWH Emergency Department Manager. “Often, they’re here for positive reasons, helping keep our staff and patients safe.”
Law enforcement officers collaborate closely with emergency medical teams by providing vital information—such as accident details or incident photos—that helps trauma teams better understand the injuries sustained. Their presence also ensures a safe and protected environment for medical staff and patients.
“Being able to communicate and work well together ensures patients—whether they’re suspects, victims, or potentially dangerous individuals—receive the medical treatment they need in a secure setting,” explained Lieutenant Jacob Albee of the Wausau Police Department (WPD).
This partnership underscores a shared mission: providing quality care to the members of the community.
Lieutenant Albee emphasized the importance of these partnerships, saying, “As police officers, we’re there to help people. Being able to work together with partners such as the AWH Emergency staff allows us to make sure people receive the medical treatment they need.”
Aspirus Health is proud to honor law enforcement officers for their dedication and invaluable contributions to community health and safety.
