Bright Line Investigations Marks Three Years of Paid UWSP Internships and Continued Athletics Support
Former interns advance to federal and state investigative roles as the agency enters its third academic year sponsoring Pointer Athletics.
STEVENS POINT, Wis. — Bright Line Investigations LLC is marking three years of paid internship placements with University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point students and its third consecutive academic year as a sponsor of UWSP Pointer Athletics.
Since welcoming its first UWSP interns in 2023, the Stevens Point agency has connected classroom learning with supervised investigative assignments. Former interns include Jordan Reed, now with Homeland Security Investigations, where his investigative duties also include instructing special agents in surveillance skills, and Brady Peer, now a digital evidence specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation.
All Bright Line internships are paid. The agency pairs that investment with high expectations for reliability, preparation, confidentiality, accurate documentation, and responsiveness to feedback. Interns take on greater responsibility as their skills and professional judgment develop.
“We pay our interns because we value their work, and we expect them to take the opportunity seriously,” said Kyle Corrigan, M.S., CIFI, chief investigator of Bright Line Investigations. “Our responsibility is to provide instruction, meaningful assignments, and honest feedback. Whether they build a career with us or pursue opportunities elsewhere, we want them to leave each stage better prepared for the next.”
Internship assignments can include case administration, records research, surveillance, process service, witness development and interviewing, evidence organization, and investigative report writing. As interns develop their skills and demonstrate sound judgment, they can progress to supervised work on complex criminal defense investigations and complex civil investigations. Instruction emphasizes accurate documentation, corroborating information, supporting conclusions with evidence, and communicating findings clearly.
The agency has worked with UWSP faculty, including Criminal Justice Coordinator Dr. Dorothy De Boer and Sociology Department Chair Dr. David Barry, to connect academic study with practical experience. Students receive ongoing feedback, while faculty retain responsibility for academic credit and course requirements.
“Jordan and Brady earned their opportunities through their own effort and commitment,” Corrigan said. “We’re proud to have contributed to their preparation and to see them applying those skills in their careers.”
Bright Line is seeking students interested in longer-term paid placements that can extend beyond a single semester. These opportunities give interns time to develop foundational skills, contribute to increasingly demanding cases, and prepare for greater professional responsibility. Continued employment and advancement depend on performance, qualifications, and agency needs.
Alongside its internship program, Bright Line continues its support of Pointer Athletics. For Corrigan, who grew up attending Pointer basketball games and later played at Quandt Fieldhouse as a Stevens Point Area Senior High student, the sponsorship maintains a longstanding connection to the university and the Stevens Point community.
Bright Line welcomes inquiries from faculty and internship coordinators interested in guest lectures or paid student placements. The agency aims to build on its experience with UWSP by connecting more students with practical investigative education and professional opportunities.
