CWSO Holds Fundraising Event and Season Opening Concert!

[STEVENS POINT, WI] – The Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra (CWSO) is pleased to launch their 76th Season with their kick-off fundraising event RHAPSODY on Thursday, October 8th and their opening concert BLUE WITH A SPLASH on October 12th at Sentry Theater.

The CWSO will kick start their year with a fundraising event on October 8th at 6:30pm at Great Northern Distillery entitled RHAPSODY. The event will feature a signature cocktail, food by Purple Basil, music by “A Joyful Little Band,” and handcrafted piano benches painted by local artisans available for silent auction. Attendees will receive a complimentary embossed cocktail glass and also have the opportunity to Meet & Greet piano soloist Dr. Nicholas Roth. All proceeds of the event will help support the educational and outreach programs of the CWSO. Tickets are $40 per individual and can be purchased online at www.cwso.org or by calling 715-345-7726.

The CWSO will perform their first concert of the Season entitled BLUE WITH A SPLASH at Sentry Theater on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 7:30 pm. This will be the first concert to kick off the 76th Season and will feature “Overture to Candide” by Leonard Bernstein, “blue cathedral” by Jennifer Higdon, “A Study in Red” by Stephanie Berg, and “Rhapsody in Blue” by George Gershwin. This concert will also feature artist Dr. Nicholas Roth on piano to perform “Rhapsody in Blue”. Dr. Nicholas Roth holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Michigan State University, Artist Diplomas in solo piano performance and art song collaboration from the Hochschule für Musik in Munich, and MM and BM degrees from Indiana University, where he was also the recipient of the Jacobs School of Music's highest honors, including the Performer’s Certificate and the Joseph Battista Memorial Scholarship. He studied with Ralph Votapek, Elisso Virsaladze, Helmut Deutsch, Edward Auer, Emilio del Rosario, and Michel Block.

Roth is Professor of Piano at Drake University. Previous appointments include University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point and Alma College. He has recorded for the Blue Griffin, Naxos, MSR Classics & Innova recording labels. His recordings with Blue Griffin have garnered exceptional reviews from International Record Review, Gramophone, Fanfare, and American Record Guide.
