Rapper J.P. to perform at UW-Stevens Point

Rapper and Milwaukee native Josiah Gillie, known professionally as J.P., will take the stage at his alma mater, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, this January as students return to campus from their winter break.

“J.P. Presents: Back in the Groove” will be held in the Dreyfus University Center Laird Room from 8-9 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23. Tickets are $15 plus fees for the general public and free for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D. All attendees must purchase/reserve a ticket online at tickets.uwsp.edu. The event is 18+ and no one under 18 will be allowed to attend, even with supervision. No bags, coats or carry-ins are allowed. Coats and bags will be checked in a non-secure area.

Gillie, a 20-year-old rising rapper, is known for his 2024 mixtape “Coming Out Party,” with the hit single “Bad Bitty.” The song that saw his rise to fame was created in his residence hall room at UW-Stevens Point with his brother, manager and UWSP marketing major Myles Coleman.

He initially chose to attend UW-Stevens Point to play basketball. However, when he discovered the high-quality music and voice program the university offers, he said this was “icing on the cake” in coming to the university.

“I’m excited to engage with the fans, transfer my energy over to them and hope that causes them to have a great start to their spring semester,” said Gillie.
