Shakespeare comedy “Love’s Labor’s Won” takes the stage at UWSP

Experience the works of Shakespeare set in the era of World War 1 at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point this month.

“Love’s Labor’s Won”, written by nationally recognized playwright Scott Kaiser, will be staged in the Studio Theatre of the Noel Fine Arts Center, 1800 Portage St., Stevens Point. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, May 2-3, and Thursday through Saturday May 8-10, with a matinee at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 4.

Tickets are $27 for adults, $24 for seniors and UW-Stevens Point faculty and staff, and $16 for youth. Tickets will be available for purchase at tickets.uwsp.edu, by calling 715-346-4100 or by visiting the Information and Tickets Office in the Dreyfus University Center in Stevens Point.

In Kaiser’s sequel to William Shakespeare’s beloved early romantic comedy “Love’s Labor’s Lost”, four young couples reunite after four turbulent years in hopes of rekindling their romances that were dashed at the end of Shakespeare’s play due to war sparked by the sudden death of the King of France. With many twists and turns, this comedy will have you guessing from beginning to end.

“This is my directorial debut at UWSP,” said Director and Assistant Professor Dana Dancho, “so this production is especially exciting and meaningful to me.”

Dancho met Kaiser during her time in the Master of Fine Arts Acting program at The Theatre School at DePaul University, leading her to want to put his production on stage.

The production’s World War 1 era theme will be reflected in both set and costume. Professor Matthew Buchman has also written an original score to accompany the show.

Dancho said, “Being a Shakespeare afficionado is a not a requirement to seeing the production, and I truly hope audiences enjoy it.”
