An experienced administrator at Gannon University has been named the new assistant to the chancellor for affirmative action and Title IX at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Joseph Primiano will begin his new role at UW-Stevens Point on Jan. 6, 2025. The position ensures compliance with state and federal laws, Universities of Wisconsin policies and campus policies and reports to Chancellor Thomas Gibson.
Primiano served as the Title IX coordinator and director of the Office of Student Accountability and Prevention Education at Gannon University. He also taught criminal justice courses, chaired the Sexual Misconduct Committee and served in several university groups, including the Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Steering Committee, Bias Incident Response Team, Behavior Intervention Team and University Legislative Advisory Committee. He also is owner and president of Ohio Title IX, LLC, a higher education consulting and advising company.
He holds a juris doctor from Cleveland State University’s Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, as well as a degree in criminal justice administration from Tiffin University.
Primiano has been active in his community, serving the City of Mentor Board of Building and Zoning Appeals and the Cleveland Community Police Commission.
“Joseph’s extensive experience in higher education, law and Title IX administration ensures that UW-Stevens Point will maintain its compliance with institutional policies, laws and regulations, preserving a safe and inclusive learning community for students, faculty and staff,” said Chancellor Gibson. “I look forward to having him as part of our team.”
Title IX is a federal civil rights law set in place as a part of the Education Amendments of 1972. It prohibits sex-based discrimination in any educational setting that receives funding from the government. Affirmative action policies improve employment and educational opportunities for people of all ages, races, abilities, genders and sexual orientations.
