Discover collections in paleontology, geology and more at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Olson Museum of Natural History’s open house next month.
The UW-Stevens Point’s Olson Museum will host the 2025 Collection Crawl on Saturday, April 5, from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, providing an opportunity for children and families to enjoy hands-on activities and explore scientific specimens.
The public is invited to explore collections in the Trainer Natural Resources Building, Chemistry Biology Building and Science Building. Attendees may complete an event passport and earn a stamp for visiting each collection site.
The Olson Museum of Natural History is on the main floor of the Science Building, 2001 Fourth Avenue. Attendees can tour the rock and fossil exhibit space and go behind the scenes at the museum where future spaces are under construction. Event participants will be able to use microscopes in the Olson Museum Discovery Room, play trivia and check out the friendly live animals cared for by the university Herpetology Club.
“Only once a year does the public get to learn first-hand from the scientists who curate our museum collections. Museums are far more than what is exhibited, and this is a chance to see and appreciate the scope of our natural history collections and the science those collections support,” said Samantha Kaplan, professor of geology and Collection Crawl museum curator.
In addition to the exhibits the Blocher Planetarium, located on the second floor of the Science Building, will be offering free programs, including:
- 10 a.m. “Incoming! Asteroids, Comets and the Hard-Hitting Stories of our Cosmic Origins”
- 11 a.m. “Laser Musical Show”
