The following students at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point were honored for excellence in academic achievement:
- The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s student- run radio station, WWSP-90fm, was honored with 10 individual awards by the Wisconsin Broadcaster’s Association (WBA) in February 2025. Each year the WBA hosts a student seminar for high school and college affiliated broadcast organizations to network with industry professionals, attend career development seminars and receive recognition for achievements in student broadcasting.
Station Manager Derek Tritz led the pack, bringing home six awards across three categories. Sports Director Liam Statz, Technical Director Owen Bessey, Public Relations and Outreach Director Montanna Heinz and volunteer Brian Larson were also among the group of students recognized for their contributions.
- Published by UW-Stevens Point’s Cornerstone Press in February 2025, “The Continental Divide” by Bob Johnson has received a rave review in the New York Times Book Review (NYTBR). This is first time a title from the student-staffed literary press has received a review in the NYTBR.
- The UWSP Opera Workshop were named a National Finalist earlier this year for the 2024 American Prize in Opera Performance—college/university division. They tied for third place nationally in this category. The group also were national finalists in The 2024 American Prize Ernst Bacon Memorial Award for the Performance of American Music, smaller college/university ensemble & conductor division.
- Alex Suscha, a sophomore business administration and management major, took first place with his business, Sourcer AI, at the 2024 Accelerate Sheboygan County Pitch Competition.
- Emma Politoski, Master of Business Administration graduate student, won the Undergraduate Student of the Year award. This award is given to an outstanding undergraduate student at a member institution of Region V who has shown dedicated work ethic in the student union/student activities field. The recipient will have demonstrated significant contributions to their home campus and served as a role model for fellow peers and students, in addition to exemplifying the core values of the Association in their work and studies.
