Youth Symphony Orchestra Program holds Spring Concert on April 7th

[STEVENS POINT, WI] – April 2, 2024 - The Central Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra Program (CWYSOP) is pleased to announce that it will hold its Spring 2024 Concert on Sunday, April 7th at 4 p.m. at the Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH). The CWSO is excited to host its second Youth Symphony concert since taking over the Program in May 2023. Tickets are $5 (cash or check) and only available at the door on April 7th. The Program has 78 middle and high school students performing at the concert. Philharmonia Conductor Austin Bolden and Symphony Orchestra Conductor Steve Wucherer have been working with the students since September, rehearsing weekly on most Sunday afternoons. 

 

CWSO Music Director Dr. Andy Moran states “We are very excited that we joined forces with the Central Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra Program! Their mission closely aligns with CWSO, so it is a perfect match for us and the musical community here in Central Wisconsin. The program provides tremendous opportunities for young musicians here in central Wisconsin.”  

 

CWYSOP Music Director Steve Wucherer also states his excitement by saying, “We hope you can join us at this concert! The ensembles have been working diligently to prepare for this spring performance.” The Philharmonia will perform Slavonic Dances by Antonin Dvorak, arr. Merle J. Isaac; Symphony in G Major (The Surprise Symphony), arr. Merle J. Isaac, Mv’t. II - Andante by Josef Hayden, La Bamba arranged by Richie Valens, scored by Bob Cerulli; and Jupiter - Bringer of Jollity, from “The Planets” by Gustav Holst, arr. Leidig. The Symphony Orchestra will perform Fanfare for the Common Man by Aaron Copland, arr. Robert Longfield; Symphony No. 2 in G Major, Mv’t. IV – Finale by Jean Sibelius; Highlights from Jurassic Park by John Williams, arr. Calvin Custer; and Fugue in G Minor (The Little) by J.S. Bach, arr. Lucien Cailliet. 

 

For many young central Wisconsin music students this will help foster and grow their music education enrichment. Registration for Fall 2024 will open SOON for the Philharmonia and the Symphony Orchestra at CWSO.ORG. Watch our website and Facebook for more information. All students in grades 6-12 are welcome to join the Program. Fall rehearsals begin on September 8, 2024. 

 

The Central Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra Program was founded in 2014 in partnership with UW-Stevens Point Continuing Education, UW-Stevens Point Music Department, Aber Suzuki Center, Heid Music, and regional music educators in Central Wisconsin. Two full symphony orchestras comprised of nearly 80 students from Portage, Wood, Waushara, Shawano, Waupaca, Adams, Juneau, Marathon, Lincoln and Langlade Counties rehearse weekly during the academic year at the Noel Fine Arts Center on the UW-Stevens Point campus. Students receive mentoring from top music education majors and faculty of the UW-Stevens Point Music Department and Aber Suzuki Center faculty.
